Development of Baroque musical style through the Classical musical style
The word “Baroque” comes from the Portuguese word “barroco” that means “oddly shaped pearl,” The word or term “Baroque” has been extensively used since 19th century to demonstrate the era of art music in Western Europe from 1600 to 1750.
Referring some of history’s greatest masterpieces as deformed pearl might seem odd to us now; but for the 19th century reviewer who applied the term, the music of Bach and Handel’s era looked excessively ornamented. Having very old since shed its critical association, “baroque” is simply a suitable catch-all for one of the richest and varied periods in the history of music.
In Other words, the Baroque music illustrates a way of European classical music. The era from 1600 to 1750, is the period between the Renaissance period and the Classical era.
As stated earlier, the word "baroque" has the Portuguese origin; a noticeably appropriate classification of the architecture of this era; later, the word "baroque" arrived to be functional to its music as well.
Baroque shapes key portions of the classical music standard, being extensively studied, enjoyed and practiced. The Baroque genre is associated with the well known composers such as Antonio Vivaldi, Claudio Monteverdi, Jean-Philippe Rameau, Johann Sebastian Bach, George Frideric Handel, Alessandro Scarlatti, Jean-Baptiste Lully, Henry Purcell and Arcangelo Corelli, etc. In Baroque style there are varieties of vocal and instrumental combination was practiced such as:
Vocal (Opera): Opera seria, Opera comique, Opera, Zarzuela, and Opera-ballet.
Vocal (non-Opera): Oratorio, Anthem, Monody, Masque, Passion (music), Cantata, Mass (music), and Chorale.
Instrumental: Chorale prelude, Canzona, Sinfonia, Fantasia, Ricercar, Concerto grosso, Fugue, Partita, Toccata, Prelude, Chaconne, Passacaglia, Stylus fantasticus and Suite.
Suite: Sarabande, Gavotte Allemande, Courante, Minuet.and Gigue
Sonata: Sonata da chiesa, Sonata da camera and Trio sonata.
The baroque period was the development period of practical tonality. During that time period, performers used variety of elaborated musical instruments and ornamentation, made alters in musical notation, and invented or innovated more playing techniques. Baroque music extended the range, size and complexity of instrument’s performance, and launched the opera also as a separate genre. The number of musical jargons and concepts from that era are still in practice. The Baroque and Classical music periods seem to be similar. Yes they have many similarities, for instance, “the same basic orchestral and chamber ensembles are used”, in both eras. (Wylie, 2003)
As described earlier that there was a number of composers who developed the breathtaking compositions, Corelli developed 48 trio sonatas, total 24 Concerti grossi, and violin and continuo sonatas. Furthermore, Corelli also developed the following works:
Sonatas da chiesa (Rome 1681), sonatas da camera (Rome 1685), sonatas da chiesa (Rome 1689), sonatas da camera (Rome 1694) all with (trio sonatas for continuo and 2 violins)
Suonati a violino e violone o cimbalo (6 sonatas da chiesa and 6 sonatas da camera for violin and continuo) (Rome 1700). The last sonata is a set of variations on La Folia.
Concerti grossi (Amsterdam 1714), (4 concerti da camera and 8 concerti da chiesa for concertino of 2 violins and cello, string ripieno, and continuo) (Boyden, 1972).
But the Arcangelo Corelli’s work on the development of sonatas da chiesa, trio Sonata and sonatas da camera was highly unique in nature that reshaped the Baroque style from its Classical origin. Arcangelo Corelli was an Italian composer and violinist of Baroque genre.
Sonata da chiesa was an instrumental symphony usually comprising of four movements. There were more than one melody used and the pace was followed the slow–fast order with respect to rhythm. The second movement was generally a fugal allegro and the third and fourth were dual forms that occasionally portrayed the gigue and sarabande.
A trio sonata is developed for basso continuo and two solo melodic instruments, because of these three parts’ combination, it is pronounced as trio sonata. Because the basso continuo is generally the combination of at least two instruments (usually a keyboard instrument e.g. the harpsichord and a bass viol or cello), trio sonatas are generally performed by using four musicians at least. The trio sonatas such as opus III and opus I that were developed by Arcangelo Corelli were his unique artistic works. However, sonata da chiesa was swapped by the sonata but the trio sonata sustained to exist into the Classical time period but finally changed into real trios.
Throughout the Pre-Classical era, musical forms were changed, innovated and invented. Majority of the work were strophic, but in arias genre, the da capo aria was highly popular. The number of Preclassic composers utilized binary form for the instrumental work/music, but that pattern became altered into sonata form, resulting the Cadence rhyme that became in fashion.
“Empfindsamer stil” style reshaped the music and gave it diversified expressions. The Baroque doctrine developed into the conviction that there should be a persistent modification of expression throughout the artwork with supporting of suitable dynamic shadings. Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach stated that melodies that belong to instrumental should be developed according to the good vocal melodies model. However, this approach was not as profoundly ornamented as style galant, in order that pitch could shine from first to last. Frequently, the music would be tuned with a light supplement. (Stolba, 1998)
However, the preclassical time period did not completely supplant the Baroque style or Genre; as an alternative, they survived alongside with each other. In a number of ways, nevertheless, the preclassical period was the response to Baroque ornamentation and grandeur.
Besides that The Classical period’s composers were powerfully influenced by the Enlightenment’s ideals, which highly favored the “natural” over the formal and equality over exclusivity. Because of that fact, the number of other elements, that is the part of Baroque music, were not discarded. The key element that persisted was the tonal harmony. The propensity to stress the melody and bass lines was, if something strengthened in the Classical period’s simpler textures. Furthermore, numerous forms and ensembles invented and innovated during the Baroque were accepted, implemented, developed and altered in the Classical and later periods.
For maximize the Profit and minimize the cost, polishing the local skills and value addition is inevitable and this issue could be copped by doing long and short term planning.
Comprehensive Review about Planning, Implementation, proposed solution, affecting factors, Evaluating resources and ethical issues.
Short term Planning: as discussed earlier that the Kava island faced the natural disaster that effected bitterly the physical, environmental and economical situations. Furthermore, the majority population of the Kava Island is underage and unskilled.
But the organization has a plan to take these obstacles as an opportunity to business development and to reap the maximum benefit from this natural-resource-rich island that baked up with the Bananas, coffee, fishing, petroleum, cocoa, spices, sugar, tourism and natural gas etc.
For the development of human capital and to establish the organizational infrastructure, the services of outsourcing will be hired that will be worked with the existing company’s workforce to kick-start the business activity. After this, the next step will be to reap the benefit of cheap labor by developing and polishing their skills and abilities. For achieving this target, the experienced workforce will be utilized to nurture the local available workforce.
