Employee Privacy Report
The e-mail use, Internet use, and privacy policies at the job are now become the part and parcel elements in any type of formal organizations. These polices basically act as a safeguards that protect the organization’s assets pertaining to the internet and information technology etc.
Every organization develops and devises these policies according to their business requirements and nature of information. It seems in practice that where the core business operations are directly related to the customers’ personal information, these privacy policies are highly strict than others.
Here, it would be better to talk about mobile telecommunication companies, especially there customer support departments where the client support executives has directly access to the customer’s personnel information with their mobile usage history. The e-mail use, Internet use, and privacy policies that are implemented and in-practice are highly restricted and organizational oriented that tighten the employees to use information technology resources only for official use.
To make these privacy policies in practice, there are highly dedicated server in-place that strictly keep monitors each and every activity that does on the workstations, that server has the highly dedicated and updated firewall that only give access to those websites and applications that are approved by the information security personnel. Therefore, employees are bound to use only organization’s intranet and authorized websites. In other words they are not able to use public emails and internet for personal use.
According to the policies, employees are restricted to use personnel mobile phones on the production floor. In that connection organization provided an online telephony facility as an alternate that has the proper log system, employee use this facility as the alternate of their mobile phones with the facility to dial and receive the call from inside and outside the organization, free of cost. Besides that the surveillance cameras are also there to monitor the activities on every each and every part of the vicinity except the restrooms.
The organization has highly restricted policies about the customer data protection and their privacy, even Organization has a strict policy to immediate employee fire, if he or she found in any type of malicious activities such as data leakage and snatching the customer personal information. Furthermore, organization also follows privacy and security measures about the protection of employees’ personal information including their pictures that are not accessible via online portal. In other simple words, the data protection and privacy policies are properly published and distributes via authorized HR manuals that is the pack of detailed information about the related information. ("Findlaw," 2010)
As discussed earlier that basic theme behind the email and internet policy and their implementation is to provide the protection to the data with the cost reduction, improvement of production and quality levels because during the production hours if any employee engage in personal activities such as personal mobile phone usage, chatting and usage of personal emails, these all activities are the catalysts to disturb the employees’ attentions that adversely affect on the production, increase the percentage of errors and production time that all means to augment in the overall cost. Therefore, the essence of this e-mail and Internet privacy is to use them as a safeguard for organization assets, data, and personal information and to provide the assurance of smooth and efficient productions.
There are lots of assumptions that employees might make about their privacy such as the management are psycho that installed these idiot camera systems on our heads, they would rather to focus on performance than to keep watching our live movies. Sometime, these strict vigilances become the cause of frustration among the employees that management does not trust on them and their performance. The employees might think that organization just suppose them as the robotic profit generation units than to treat us as a common human being. Employees might also think that management just focus on the revenue generation than to provide proper relaxation that is inevitable for mental health and that mental health is the catalyst for quality production.
These assumption and perceptions adversely affect on the employees’ performance and privacy that they are bound to act as robot and they even has not any room to have friendly discussion on general issues etc, the highly restrict policy might disturb the employee confidence in the level that even might think in the rest room and locker they will also be vigilance. It should be borne in mind that highly restricted privacy policies might disturb the employees’ ego that might become the catalyst of surging in the employment turnover rate. ("Workworries," 2010)
