Essay on HTML 5

Like its predecessors hypertext markup language or when abbreviated as HTML 4, HTML 5 is the currently under development technology that is being designed to revolutionize and simultaneously revise the structural and presentation content available at the World Wide Web. The new technology that is anticipated to hit the market soon is designed to offer the users of internet greater variation in terms of function and convenience.
The new features that are added in the technology being introduced the user will be provided the convenience of features like video playback and drag and drop for which the user was previously dependent on different internet browsers and their installation such as Adobe Flash, Microsoft Silverlight and Google Gears. (Lawson and Sharp, 2010)
With the invasion of HTML 5 in the world of internet is about to experience and undergo another revolutionary phase that will prove advantageous for everyone using the facility of the internet.
HTML 5 is being widely regarded as the new language of the internet not only at the user end but also at the developer end. Once launched officially it will be the de facto language used by all major web browsers such as Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome and Safari for rendering websites. Hence this transition from HTML 4 to 5 will impose a number of changes for web developers and designers and that it is basically these kinds of transitional complications that have so far blurred the future of the new technology.
The specification of HTML 5 was adopted by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) in the year 2007. Even though the process of specification for the language is a time consuming one, according to W3C, it is anticipated that HTML 5 will reach recommendation by the late of the year 2010. (David, 2010)
Benefits provided by HTML 5
One of the major benefits that the new language will offer its users will be the accessibility and convenient availability of videos and various types of media for which different programs and software such as Flash and Silver light are installed.
In addition to this HTML 5 is also likely to add further easiness and simplicity for both developers and users in terms of video and audio connectivity due to the increased compatibility to such mediums to the code of the HTML 5. If a website is encrypted in HTML 5 and the user is making use of a well-matched web browser, then the probability of using any third party plug-ins is greatly reduced. Furthermore, problems regarding the rendering of video will also alleviate as browsers will also be enabled to display required images without seeking help from any other program or source. (Pilgrim, 2010)
Challenges and Complications
It is worth mentioning here that the usage of a language like HTML 5 does not play a major role in improving or enhancing the quality of the video being viewed, but with the compatibility that the language is willing to offer at user disposal it is anticipated that it will definitely gain leverage over other web languages in its initial years after launching. The technology of HTML 5 is at present being used in devices like Android and iPhone which are readily offering their users the facility of viewing Youtube videos without the presence of Flash player.
The concerns and problems being faced by technology developers and even by major companies are well-founded because a few years ago a new web language by the name of XHTML was launched after much hailing and publicity. When years after websites and technology companies all over the world began to adopt the new language, it came to an abrupt halt and it is crystal clear now that the language has certainly no future in the technological mainstream. (Krill, 2009)
Therefore after the occurrence of such events the skepticism of some developers regarding the sustainability and longevity of the new language are substantially accurate. It is not astounding at all that Adobe is highly dubious about the success of HTML 5 as the technology giant does not view the language capable enough of replacing the technology that was and is being offered by Flash.
Only time will decide the fate of HTML 5, but at the other end it must be kept in mind that the list of doubts is elongating regarding the limited compatibility being offered by HTML 5 only to browsers like Chrome and Safari. Fellow at the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, and Gopal Gupta, Head of the Computer Science Department at the University of Texas at Dallas both unanimously agree that the longevity of HTML 5 will remain cloudy if its compatibility fails to comply with browsers like Explorer and Firefox. (Hope, 2010)
With its limitations and facilities HTML 5 is pacing with a rampant speed to invade the technological arena and there is limited doubt about the fact that the future of a revolution in this sector will be written by this language.

Executive Summary
The paper discusses the multitude aspects of the new web language known as HTML 5, its benefits, cons, challenges and limitations in various sectors. The places where the future of this upcoming technology is bright and where does it sound foggy and the changes that is likely to occur once it invades the technological mainstream.
