Essay on Numerology

The advent and use of Numerology
The science of numerology is defined as any system of beliefs, traditions and customs through the help of which a relationship between numbers, physical objects and human beings can easily be constructed. The roots of this so-called curious science can easily be related to the very beginning of ancient civilizations and there are a couple of reasons which support the fact that since His advent Man has always been inquisitive about unearthing the details through which he can formulate a rational based association between spiritual and planetary systems in order to enlighten its very own consciousness. During the course of this discussion we will be highlighting some of the integral aspects which will constitute different stages of numerological transition along with the uses that this science can be used for in different facets of life. It is used to determine a person's personality, strengths and talents, obstacles to be overcome, inner needs, emotional reactions and ways of dealing with others. Pythagoras, who developed many of the basic theorems that form the foundation of modern mathematics, is credited with formally organizing the field about 2600 years ago in ancient Greece.
If a thorough analysis of history is conducted, one will come to realize that there has been overwhelming influence of numerology in all prominent civilizations that existed at one point of time. These include the Chinese civilization in the form of Circle of the Dead, Indian Vedas, Egyptian made use of numerology while conducting the Ritual of the Dead and Jews used and adhered to the principles of numerology during the conduction and practice of Kabbalah. A prominent feature that needs to be mentioned about Kabbalah here is that the crux of the doctrine upon which the thesis of this belief is based intends to create a divine relationship between God and His followers through a process based on numbers. Greater innovations towards developing better understanding of such concepts can be found in the different forms of Gematria. In this tradition the exploration and the subsequent power of number goes a step ahead by encompassing words or phrases which have identical numerical value in order to develop a relationship between them. In further extension of this numerical systems several hypothesis have been developed through the ages, but among all of them the most authentic and credible form of numerological evidence remains in the form of the summation of absolute numerical values which are represented by the help of letters that make up phrases and words. With the help of this a numerically harmonic relationship between words and phrases were devised which could then be interpreted in various ways depending on the biases, perspectives and ideas of the practitioner himself. By implementing such ways it was believed that a deeper and more loyal relationship between the Creator and His follower could easily be devised providing greater insight and understanding of the working of planetary and natural mechanisms in a much organized and rational way. The next major series of developments that played a pivotal role in broadening and diversifying the potentials and scope of numerological sciences and its advent was witnessed during the Greek civilization in which the role played by famous mathematician Pythagoras is worth discussing. Pythagoras like many of his contemporaries also believed that the concepts of mathematics were much more rational and practical in terms of convenient regulation and classification than physical laws which lack actuality. But concurrently it is also important to mention that the concepts of numerology that were devised by the Greeks also showed substantial influence and overlapping in terms of their similarity with Gematria. In Greece a new name was given to this concept which was known as Isopsephia which was specifically applied to the concepts and beliefs that could facilitate the understanding of theological and sacred texts. Upon a deeper analysis of history one can come to know that there is a great level of skepticism over the fact as to whether Pythagoras ever applied the method of Isopsephia as there are no historical records to support this claim. Everything that we know about him and the secret school of thought that he was speculated to have formed and supervised came onto the surface after many years of his demise. However another opinion that straightens the details regarding Pythagoras and his numerological affiliations is discussed in Metaphysics written by Aristotle. By carefully assessing as to what has been discussed by Aristotle in his book a couple of intelligent deductions can be made about Pythagorean numerology. First and foremost it says that the principles and injunctions of mathematics are universal in nature that can be applied to any other school of doctrine for its better and enhanced understanding. He further accentuates that by comprehending numerical patterns one can facilitate his comprehension towards the patterns and regulatory laws of nature. Pythagoras believed that a single entity that can encompass both the physical as well as the invisible world is the number which is not theoretical in terms of existence but is in fact a statement of fact. Simultaneously it is also important to emphasize upon the fact that the numerological principles and injunctions that were laid down by Pythagoras are quite different to the scientific principles of this study that are being followed contemporarily. The influence and contribution of Greeks in the field of numerology and its advent is also significant in the way that is served as a harbinger for many other philosophers and scientists especially that emerged during the age of Enlighten to base their theories and laws of nature and science on the foundation that had earlier been laid down by Pythagoras. For instance Johannes Kepler, the famous astronomer made use of the Pythagorean notion of Music of the Sphere and the flawless use of numerology involved in it to discover his crucial Law related to Planetary systems. Historical experts also say that to a substantial extent Kepler also applied the principles and rules of Sacred Geometry of Platonic solids in order to complete his research regarding the laws of solar systems and celestial bodies. Similarly the theory of light provided by Newton relies on the same premise as was earlier based by the theory of light provided by Pythagoras that light is composed of small particles that can easily be broken down into its respective components. Another key stakeholder that needs to be considered when discussing the advent and evolutionary forms of numerology is the contribution of Chinese in this science. According to Chinese belief there are certain groups or segment of numbers and their subsequent combinations which are considered luckier than others.  On the basis of generality it is believed that even numbers are much luckier than odds as it is prevalent perception among Chinese that luck often arrives to them in the form of pairs. Some of these numbers and their respective combinations included 99 which meant doubly long in time or eternally existent such as the naming of 99 Ranch Market. 168 which means progressive, highly prosperous and affluent, many premium telephone lines in China today usually begin with this number. The combination of 518 means ‘I will prosper’ other combinations that have been introduced within the same numerological pattern include 5189 which means that ‘I will prosper for a long time’ and 5918 implying that ‘I will prosper soon’. There are several other patterns of numerological numbers and their subsequent combinations such as 1314, 289, 888 and 814 which are used in situations that are speculated and believed to generate good luck and positive outcomes for people. In addition to all this it is also important to mention that other conventional sciences such as astrology and alchemy are also overwhelmingly influenced by the principles of numerology. Many theories of alchemy have been devised through numerological knowledge. One of the prominent examples to support this idea is of Persian alchemist Jabbir Bin Hayan who framed his experiments based on a numerological system allowing experimental substances to be used in Arabic Language. Apart from this many astrologers also believe that each of the number from 0 to 9 is ruled by celestial bodies that are present in our solar system.
The uses of Numerology
The uses of numerology are quite wide and diverse when applied in contemporary context. Even though the uses of numerology which are used today are not used in the same way as they were done in primitive time when the science actually emerged but it is still widely used today in many cultures and societies especially when initiating something new such as the christening the child or starting a new business. In places like India such customs are normally observed especially when a new film name is being decided or numerology is also used in the usage of alphabets and the way the name of the film or any other important entity will be pronounced. Most of the uses of numerological science that are observed today are designed in order to generate greater luck and favor for the people that are involved with it so that their projects do not come to a disastrous end. Another area where the use of numerology is commonly viewed is in places where gaming is conducted. Games like bingo, lotteries, gambling, keno and roulette involve a high degree of numerological usage in determining whether the end of the game would end in favor or disaster for the contestant. For example the use of numerology is commonly viewed in the game of roulette where many players bet on a single number. In order to make one lucky it is important for the players to devise a strategy using the fundamental knowledge of numerology in order to unearth the numbers which are commonly referred to as lucky generators in the game. The use of numerology can also be extended to certain scientific discoveries also such as the atomic triads which is one of the most prominent among them. The law of triad which was devised depended on the summing of the atomic weights and then calculating their average. Even though this rule of numerology did not apply to all elements and their atomic weights, but it still seemed useful in creating a generalization which could be applied to almost all elements present in the periodic table thus extending this concept into the realm of numerology and the application of its principles and knowledge. Some scientists such as Wolfgang Pauli was also fascinated by the appearance of numerological numbers such as 137 and the way that they were used in physics.
In Numerology, numbers play the most important part. Be it phone or house number, they all foretell something good or bad for its bearer. People change or stick to the same number knowing their effects in the light of numerology. Understanding the significance of different numbers, the practitioners of numerology may even go to the extent of adding more numbers with a belief that it will offset the ominous aspect of the previous number they had. On an individual level, people use numerology for knowing their path in life. They also use it to know the intention of their Soul when it came onto this planet.
For those who use numerology as religion, the great number one stands for Father-Mother, two as the Creative Christ Consciousness, the son of God, and finally number three serves as the Spirit of God making Trinity. It is also used as a moral system in which Enumeration gives the person a real reason to be virtuous with any particular reference to the traditional notions of heaven and hell. Numerology, in this regard, does not challenge one’s current belief nor does it create doubt about the established religions. It helps one analyze one’s religion with mathematical and scientific accuracy.
It is also used to recognize one’s supposedly inherent faults and mend them by knowing their nature.
The uses of numerology are manifold. Primarily, it is used to help one understand both the divine aspect of one’s lives and who they are as mortal personalities in this incarnation. One of the most prevalent uses of numerology is that people use it to help them and their children create harmony into their lives. Since every soul and child has a distinct and unique personality and most significantly an unchangeable destiny, people, through the help of numerology, guide themselves and their children by the knowing the cosmic blueprint of themselves. People find this way ever more effective to deal with their fears, problems, and ill-fated occurrences. Numerology guides them through unnecessary, painful, destructive, non-productive, inharmonious and non-beneficial phases of life. It assists people in the process of decision-making and in times of crisis as well. They may also use it to make appropriate adjustments with their unchangeable destiny to attain peace, serenity and harmony in life.
Another use of numerology is that it can help people to the depth and substance of their relationships quickly and substantially. Through numerology, they do not bother to spend months, years or decades to know and understand the nature and consequences of their relationships with others. Numerology does it for them as it can also reveal practically the assets, liabilities, strengths and weaknesses, desires, and traits of themselves and others. People use numerology to know others in relationship profoundly in a cosmic sense because it increases the possibilities of understanding, harmony and serenity---irrespective of the kind of relationship, be it on personal plane or professional. Some numerologists even go on to suggest that this century will be full of chaos and wars because it is marked by “2”.

People use numerology to forebode the dangers that future has in store for them and to stay forewarned and cautious. They plan their course of action to fend off any unpleasant situation accordingly. It is used to enhance one’s intuitive powers.
