The research question which I have chosen to investigate about is what are the factors in the working environment of an organization that affects the employee motivation?
In this regard, I have chosen three studies by different researchers which explores the affect of different factors within an organization on the motivation of the employees’.

This particular research , was conducted at The Ohio State University's Piketon Research and Extension Center and Enterprise Center to examine the ranked importance of the motivational factors of employees. In the study ten ranked motivating factors included; Job security, sympathetic help with the personal problems, personal loyalty towards the employees, how interesting is the work, good working conditions, tactful discipline, good wages, promotions and growths within the organization, feeling of being in on things and getting a full appreciation for the completed work. Another secondary purpose of the study was to compare it with studies conducted on other populations. The main focus of the research was to understand the factors affecting the employee’s motivational level. A descriptive survey method was conducted on all 25 employees of the centre out of which 23 participated in the survey. The survey contained questions based on the context of employee motivation theory. I found this study useful for my research topics as the findings of the study suggest that the key factors in higher motivation of the employees are good pay and how interesting is the work. The major limitation of the study was it’s sample size which was restricted. The study has been obtained from a credible online source. The research provides useful insight into the factors which motivate the employees at the work place but further research is needed to be done on more general population to generalize the results.

Another study of interest related to the topic is an integrative literature review of the studies related to the employee motivational practices in different organizations. The empirical work related to the topic published during 1999-2010, were searched through a broad computerized and credible database sources. The study used the analysis of both qualitative and quantitative studies. A total of forty articles which included 10 qualitative studies, 25 quantitative studies,and five combined both qualitative and quantitative studies were selected, related to the employee motivation in the organization. These were selected after extensive screening. The literature review collected focused on how the characteristics of the job, characteristics of employees, practices of management and other broader environmental factor influences the motivation of employees in an organization. The aim of the study was to present the integrative review of the literature related to the motivation of employees in different organizations. This is the useful study as it provides a conceptual framework and an integrative literature review of the motivational characteristics related to different aspects of organization such as job characteristics, characteristics of employees, practices of management, and broader environmental conditions. The critical review of the studies emphasizes the importance of the employee motivational practices in organizations. The limitation of the study is that the data collection method is restricted to certain keywords and specific methods for searching the computerized database along with a time constraint. Additionally, the scope of work motivation is very broad which represents many different job sectors. Therefore, there is a need to conduct a research on employee motivation in particular job sectors. This study can provide a useful supplementary information for my research question related to the factors affecting employee motivation in an organization.

This study tends to identify the factors that affect the motivation of employees and also examine the relationship between the effectiveness of organization and motivation of employees. Three hypotheses are formulated based on the relevant literature and the model of study; there is an effect of recognizing employees’ work on their motivation to work, there is an effect of empowering employees in tasks on their motivation to work and there is a relationship between employees’ motivation and organizational effectiveness. These three hypotheses are tested in study in perspective of previous studies and the related available literature. The review of the previous literature on the subject and various studies concluded that the empowerment and recognition places a positive effect on the motivation of employees. The motivation of the employees will enhance with an increase in the empowerment and recognition of the employees in an organization. Similarly, there is a positive relationship between the motivation of employees and effectiveness of the organization. The higher the motivation of the employees to accomplish the task, the greater will be the success and performance rate of an organization. This study proves useful for my research question as it investigates how employee empowerment and appreciation positively affects the effectiveness and success of the organization. Recognition of the employees’ efforts and empowerment contributes positively towards employees’ motivation. They feel valued and satisfied with their task and organization. The limitation of the study is that it is based on the analysis of the other relevant studies related to the subject. The study points out towards the role played by two important factors in motivation of employees; empowerment and employee recognition. These two lead towards the effectiveness of an organization. Based on the findings of the study, an organization can design their rules, regulations and practices that empower the employees and provides positive feedback and appreciation for them on their task achievements and performance. This will definitely place a positive effect on the growth and success of the organization. The source for the study is an International European Journal of Business and Management which is a credible source which is published under the authority of International Institute for Science, technology and education.This study has identified two important factors that influence employees’ motivation for my research study.
